JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Lady Blues earned a sweep over the Cornell College Rams on Senior Day. Before today's contest the Lady Blues took the time to recognize their five seniors.
AnnaBeth Batson,
Maddy Morgan,
Jessica Belzer,
Sam Seggerman, and
Jenna Wright were honored by their team in the senior day ceremony.
Game 1- Illinois College 4, Cornell College 1
The first game of the day would be a close contest. The Lady Blues would strike first after a single by
Emma Newton brought in a run by
Madisyn Webster. Cornell would answer back with a run of their own in the third inning to tie the game 1-1.
Illinois College would pull away in the fourth inning after Morgan was able to score on a error by the Rams.
Annie Schimpf would then single to bring in two more runs by Wright and
Claudia Adam to seal the victory.
Sydney Hood would earn the win in the circle pitching all seven innings earning seven strikeouts.
Game 2- Illinois College 1, Cornell College 0
The second game would prove to be a defensive contest with both teams struggling to score. Both teams would stand scoreless after regulation to force the game into extra innings.
Schimpf would reach on an error and then advance to third on a sacrifice bunt by Belzer. Webster would single in the eighth inning to bring in the game winning run by Schimpf.
Olivia Shimmin would earn the win in the circle pitching four innings earning three strikeouts.
The Lady Blues will host Knox College on Friday, 4/30 at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
