IC Baseball Earns Split Against Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ill.- The Illinois College Blueboys traveled to take on the Monmouth College Fighting Scots in a Sunday doubleheader. The Scots would win game one with a final of 12-6, and the Blueboys would pick up the win in game two 14-13. This puts the Blueboys at 12-13 overall and  9-4 in the MWC. 

Game 1- Illinois College 6, Monmouth College 12

The Scots would score first in the bottom of the second to take the early lead. IC would answer back in the top of the fourth with a homerun by Bailey Reed to tie the game. Griffin King would homer right after Reed to give the Blueboys the lead 2-1. 

The Scots would put together an impressive run of scores in the fifth and sixth inning to jump to a demanding 10-3 lead. This would prove to be too much for the Blueboys as the Scots would come away with the victory in game one. 

Griffin King would suffer the loss at the mound pitching 5.1 innings with two strikeouts. 

Game 2- Illinois College 14, Monmouth College 13

The second game of the day proved to be a competitive contest. IC would get going early scoring nine runs in the first inning. 

Monmouth would battle back to take the lead in the bottom of the fourth 10-9. IC would answer scoring three unanswered runs to regain the lead 12-10. The Scots would make an attempt in the bottom of the ninth, but would come up short as the Blueboys would take game two. 

Andy Cruthis would earn the win for the Blueboys at the pitching postilion pitching 3.1 innings earning one strikeout. 

Illinois College will host Knox College on Wednesday, 4/28 at 12:00 PM and 2:30 PM.
