Lady Blues Softball Earns Sweep Against the Monmouth College Fighting Scots

JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Lady Blues picked up a pair of wins Thursday in their double header against the Monmouth College Fighting Scots with finals of 3-0 and 11-3. This improves the Lady Blues to 17-11 overall and 7-1 in the MWC. 

Game 1- Illinois College 3, Monmouth College 0

Illinois College would shine offensively in the first game of the day. The team would total nine hits in the contest compared to Monmouth College's one hit. 

AnnaBeth Batson would get on the board first after a single from Annie Schimpf brought in the run. The Lady Blues would add to their lead in the bottom of the third as a sacrifice fly by Maddy Morgan would bring in a run by Madisyn Webster.

IC would seal the win with a run by Claudia Adam after a single by Schimpf in the bottom of the fourth. 

Sydney Hood would earn the win in the circle pitching all seven innings earning six strikeouts. 

Game 2- Illinois College 11, Monmouth College 3

The second game of the day would fall in IC's favor as well. The team would jump to a 5-0 lead after the first two innings. 

The Scots would get on the board in the top of the third to make the score 5-1. IC would open up their lead in the bottom of the third scoring three more runs to make the score 8-1.

IC would secure the win in the bottom of the fifth after Webster was able to hit a triple to set up the winning play. Emma Newton would hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Webster for the game winning run. 

Alissa Hodge would earn the win in game two pitching for 3.2 innings earning three strikeouts. 

Illinois College will host Cornell College on Sunday, 4/25 at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM for Senior Day.
