GALESBURG, Ill.- The Illinois College Blueboys earned two wins in their doubleheader against Knox College on Thursday. The team earned a win in game one 18-13 and in game two 12-7. This improved the team to 11-11 overall and 8-2 in the MWC.
Game 1- Illinois College 18, Knox College 13
Bailey Reed would get the Blueboys going early with a three run homerun in his first at bat of the day. IC would continue to shine offensively in the first inning earning three more runs to make the score 6-0 after the top of the first.
After a couple of runs by the Prairie Fire in the first and the second, the Blueboys would look to open up their lead once again. Schweigert would hit a two run homerun in the top of the third to make the score 9-4. IC would add two more runs in the third to build a demanding lead 11-4.
The Blueboys would then go on to score seven unanswered runs through the top of the seventh to secure the victory.
Ryan Matheny earned the win at the mound for the Blueboys pitching four innings and earning two strikeouts.
Game 2- Illinois College 12, Knox College 7
Illinois College would carry the momentum from game one into the second game of the doubleheader against the Prairie Fire. A single from Reed would bring in a run by Payton Phillis to put IC on the board first. A single by
Griffin King would bring in the run by Reed to put the Blueboys ahead 2-0 in the top of the first.
After the Blueboys added another run in the top of the third, Knox College would come to life and take the lead with the score at 4-3 after the bottom of the fifth. IC would answer with a homer from
Griffin King to tie the game in the top of the sixth. The Blueboys would add three more runs in the sixth to make the score 7-4.
IC would hold off the Prairie Fire and earn the win in game two to complete the sweep.
Kole Lowry earned the win in game two pitching four innings earning five strikeouts.
Illinois College will look ahead to host Monmouth College on Saturday, 4/24 at 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
