MONMOUTH, Ill.- The Illinois College Lady Blues softball team traveled to take on Monmouth College in a doubleheader on Friday. IC would earn the sweep winning game one with a score of 13-4 and earning the victory in game two with a final of 9-0.
Game 1- Illinois College 13, Monmouth College 4
The first half of the doubleheader proved to be an exciting contest. Illinois College would strike first after a double by
Jessica Belzer would bring in runs by
Emma Nicholson and
Madisyn Webster.
Maddy Morgan would single to bring in Belzer to make the score 3-0 after the top of the first inning.
After a run by the Scots in the bottom of the first, the Lady Blues would add two more runs to their total after a single by Webster would bring in
Sam Seggerman and Annabeth Batson.
The fourth inning featured a homerun by Belzer to put the team up 6-1. Morgan would double to bring in a run by
Jenna Wright to extend the lead to 7-1.
IC would keep the momentum rolling with a grand slam by Morgan to jump to a demanding 11-1 lead. Wright would homer in the seventh to seal the victory in game one for the Lady Blues.
Sydney Hood earned the win at the mound in game one pitching for 4.0 innings and recording five strikeouts in the contest.
Game 2- Illinois College 9, Monmouth College 0
The second game of the day would favor IC as well. They would get off to a hot start after Wright doubled to bring in runs by Webster and Nicholson to give the Lady Blues a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
IC would put together an impressive fourth inning to extend their lead. A single by Belzer would bring in a run by
Annie Schimpf, and a single by Wright would bring in runs by Belzer and Webster. The team would cap off an impressive fourth with a triple by
Mariana Babic which would allow
Cheyenne Anderson to score and make the IC lead 6-0.
The Lady Blues would seal the deal with a three run homerun by
Grace Braun in the top of the sixth to defeat the Fighting Scots in game two.
Alissa Hodge earned the win at the mound pitching 4.0 innings and earning three strikeouts.
The Lady Blues will look ahead to host Knox College on Saturday, 4/3 at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
