Blueboys Baseball Splits Doubleheader at Cornell Over the Weekend

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa- The Illinois College Blueboys traveled to face MWC competitor Cornell College for a Sunday Doubleheader yesterday. The team was able to earn the win in game one 21-13 but came up short in game two 29-9. 

Game 1- Illinois College 21, Cornell College 13

Both games of the Sunday doubleheader features explosive offensive plays by both teams. The Blueboys would get out to the early lead standing ahead of the Rams 4-0 at the end of the top of the second. 

Cornell would take control of the game in the bottom of the fourth with a two run homer to stand ahead of the Blueboys 7-6. The Rams would continue to extend their lead in the fourth with four more runs to make the score 11-7. 

Illinois College would battle back to bring the lead to just one run after a single by Bailey Reed brought in a run by Peyton Phillis to make the score 12-11. 
 
IC would complete the comeback scoring 10 runs in the top of the eighth to seal the win. 

Conner Wilson earned the win at the mound pitching for 5.2 innings earning six strikeouts. 

Game 2- Illinois College 9, Cornell College 29 

The second game of the day featured some high powered offensive intensity from the Cornell College Rams. 

The Rams would develop a demanding lead at the beginning of the contest scoring 15 runs in the bottom of the first. 

The Blueboys would fight back with some funs of their own but the deficit proved to much to overcome as the Rams earned the win in game two. 

Zach Neal suffered the loss for the Blueboys at the pitching position. 

The team will travel to take on Knox College on Thursday, 4/22 at 12:00 PM and 2:30 PM.
