JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Lady Blues softball team earned a sweep in their doubleheader against Grinnell on Sunday. The team now stands at 15-11 overall and 4-0 in the MWC.
Game 1- Illinois College 3, Grinnell College 2
Grinnell would get on the board first in the top of the fourth to take the 1-0 lead over the Lady Blues. The Pioneers would add to their lead in the top of the sixth after a single brought in another run to make the lead 2-0.
The Lady Blues would look to make a comeback in the bottom of the seventh.
Jessica Belzer would single to bring in two runs and tie the game at two runs a piece.
Illinois College would complete the comeback after a routine play was dropped by the Pioneers that would result in the winning run making it home for the Lady Blues.
Sydney Hood would earn the win in the circle pitching all seven innings earning nine strikeouts.
Game 2- Illinois College 4, Grinnell College 0
The Lady Blues would strike first in the second game of the doubleheader with a run by
Annie Schimpf in the bottom of the third to stand ahead 1-0.
Illinois College would extend their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning scoring three runs to secure the sweep.
Alissa Hodge earned the win pitching all seven innings earning four strikeouts.
The Lady Blues will look ahead to host the Monmouth College Fighting Scots on Tuesday, 4/20 at 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
