Softball Earns Split Against Cornell College

Jacksonville, Ill - The Illinois College Lady Blues earned a split against Cornell College this afternoon to even their overall record at 10-10. The team won game one by a final score of 2-1 and were defeated in game two by a final score of 5-0.

Game 1 - Illinois College 2, Cornell College 1

The Lady Blues were powered by their starting pitcher, Sydney Hood. Hood was able to keep the Cornell offense at bay and off balance for the duration of the game. She pitched a complete game three-hitter that was backed with 10 strikeouts. Hood was the eventual winning pitcher (6-4) in this contest.

The Lady Blues offense provided some timely hitting. The team was able to generate seven hits while producing constant traffic on the base paths. In the top of the second inning, Grace Braun was able to bring home Maddy Morgan on an RBI groundout to the shortstop. The Cornell offense was able to tie the score at one a piece in the bottom half of the fourth inning. The game would move into the top of the sixth inning when Jenna Wright sent a single to left field that would allow Madisyn Webster to cross the plate. This RBI by Wright would prove to be the game winning hit. 

Game 2 - Illinois College 0, Cornell College 5

Game 2 of the twin bill started off scoreless until the bottom half of the third inning when the Cornell offense would come to life en route to a four run inning that was topped off by a Claire Gugerty two-run homerun over the center field fence. The Rams would tack on another run in the fourth inning to make the score 5-0.

Madisyn Webster and Maddy Morgan both notched two hits in this contest. 

Alissa Hodge (3-3) took the loss for the Lady Blues tossing three innings. Julia Drake came into the circle and pitched a scoreless frame for the Lady Blues. 

The team will look ahead to their next contest when they will hit the road to take on the Monmouth College Fighting Scots for a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 14th. First pitch is slated for 3:00 PM with the second contest beginning at 5:00 PM.
