JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Blueboys baseball team faced Augustana College in a doubleheader on Sunday. The team fell in game one with a final of 12-10, and suffered a loss in game two with a final of 11-4. This drops the team to 1-5 overall this season.
Game 1- Illinois College 10, Augustana College 12
Augustana would jump ahead early in game one 6-0 at the end of the top of the second. Illinois College would get on the board in the bottom of the second after a single by
Griffin King brought in a run by Cade Henneman.
The Vikings would add to their lead in the third and fourth innings to take an 11-1 lead over the Blueboys. The Bluboys would see new life after King was able to hit a three run homerun in the bottom of the fourth. IC saw more success after a double by
Jayden Kasai brought in a run by
Peyton Phillis to make the score 11-5.
The Blueboys continue to produce offensively to try and get back into the game. A double by
Kellen Blum would bring in two runs by
Caleb Uselton, and
Tyler Adams to cut the lead to just 11-7 at the end of the fifth inning.
IC would put up three more runs in the seventh, but would not be able to overcome the deficit as Augustana would take the win in game one.
Game 2- Illinois College 4, Augustana College 11
Augustana would score first in game two of the doubleheader earning seven runs after the top of the second inning to jump to an early lead.
Cade Henneman would hit a three run homerun to get the Blueboys back in the contest bringing in runs by
Tyler Adams and
James Marcinkowski. Marcinkowski would hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth the cut the deficit to 7-4.
The Vikings were able to finish the game strong to defeat the Blueboys and earn the win.
The team will face the University of Northwestern Minn. on Thursday, 3/11 at 12:00 PM.
