Illinois College Rallies to Pick Up Win Against Central

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Illinois College Softball team was able to pick up a win in their game against Central College on Saturday with a final score of 8-4. This improves the team to 2-3 overall.

Central would strike first to take the early lead earning two runs in the first inning. The Lady Blues would get on the board in the second after a sacrifice bunt by Mariana Babic pushed in a run by Cheyenne Anderson to make the score 2-1.

Central would increase their lead with another run in the fourth to make the score 3-1. After a sacrifice fly from Emily Baalman pushed in a run by Madisyn Webster in the top of the fifth, Central would add another run in the bottom of the fifth to make their lead 4-2 heading into the final inning.

An error would push in a run by Maddy Morgan in the top of the seventh to bring the Lady Blues within one. With their backs up against the wall, a wild pitch gave Lady Blues the opportunity they were looking for as Sam Seggerman was able to make a dash to the plate to earn the tying run. This would put the game into extra innings.

The teams agreed to use the tie breaker rule by starting the eighth with a runner on second. Frost would advance on another wild pitch which pushed in a run by Anderson to give the Lady Blues the lead. The team would then catch an offensive rhythm stringing together three more runs by Emma Nicholson, Webster, and Jessica Belzer to take the commanding 8-4 lead over Central.

The explosive top of the eighth proved to be enough to earn the Lady Blues the win. The team will face Simpson College and Fontbonne University on Sunday, 2/28 at 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
