JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Lady Blues took on Simpson College in a doubleheader on Friday. The team stood at 1-3 overall on the season after splitting the two games winning the first 7-0 and losing the second 10-8.
Game 1- Illinois College 7, Simpson College 0
The Lady Blues earned a win in their first game of the doubleheader. The game proved to be an evenly matched contest early on with both teams remaining scoreless through the first four innings.
Illinois College would put together an outstanding fifth inning to take control of the game. With the bases loaded the Lady Blues would win the battle at the plate to force three consecutive walks to push in runs from
Cheyenne Anderson,
Jessica Belzer, and
Grace Frost.
Claudia Adam was able to single to push in a run my
Annie Schimpf, and another walk pushed in a run by
Emily Baalman. Belzer earned an RBI after hitting a single to force in a run from
Jada Johnson to make the score 6-0.
Pitcher
Sydney Hood was able to secure the win pitching all seven innings recording two strikeouts and only allowing six hits.
Game 2- Illinois College 8, Simpson College 10
The second game of the day proved to be an exciting contest. Simpson was able to jump ahead after scoring two runs in the second inning. The Lady Blues would answer with a rally of their own in the top of the third.
Belzer was able to score after a ball was hit in play by
Maddy Morgan to get the Lady Blues on the board. A single by
Sam Seggerman would push in a run by Morgan to tie the score at 2-2. IC would take the lead after Anderson scored on a sacrifice fly by Baalman.
The Lady Blues would extend their lead in the fourth after a inside the park homerun by
Madisyn Webster made the score 4-2. Belzer would bring in another score after a single by Anderson.
Simpson would rally together in the fifth and sixth inning to get themselves back into the game. The team would tie the game at 7-7 in the fifth and take the lead 10-7 at the end of the sixth.
Simpson College was able to hold off the Lady Blues in the final inning to earn the win in game two.
Illinois College will face Central College in their next game on Saturday, 2/27 at 5:00 PM.
