Illinois College Softball Starts Season Against Illinois Wesleyan

PEORIA, Ill.- The Illinois College Lady Blues faced Illinois Wesleyan University on the road in their season opener Thursday. The team dropped both games of the double header with final scores of 6-4 and 10-0.

Game 1 - Illinois Wesleyan 6, Illinois College 4

The Lady Blues would look to start their season off right against a tough competitor in the Illinois Wesleyan Titans. The Titans would strike first in the second inning to take the lead 1-0. 

IC would answer back in the top of the fourth after a double by Emma Newton would bring in two runs by Maddy Morgan and Mariana Babic. This would put the team up 2-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth. 

Illinois Wesleyan would rally to earn two scores in the fifth and two more runs in the sixth to build a substantial lead over the Lady Blues. IC would attempt to pull off the comeback in the top of the seventh after a single by Jessica Belzer forced in a run by Jada Johnson, and a single by Sam Seggerman pushed in a run by Irie Dulin to make the score 4-6 with the bases loaded.

Illinois Wesleyan was able to secure the final two outs to end the game and pick up the win in game one of the double header. 

Game 2 - Illinois Wesleyan 10, Illinois College 0

The second game of the day featured some great play by the Titans. The team would jump to an early lead scoring two runs in the first.

The Lady Blues struggled to get their bats going to get back into the contest. 

Illinois Wesleyan would put together an outstanding fifth inning, scoring eight runs to defeat the Lady Blues and advance to 2-0 overall.

Illinois College will look ahead to take on the Transylvania Pioneers next Friday, 2/26 at 1:00 PM.
