ST. LOUIS, Mo.- The Illinois College Blueboys traveled to face the Fontbonne University Griffins Wednesday night. IC was able to come away with the win with a final score of 81-75.
Jake Mazrimas led the team in scoring earning a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds.
Tre Rogers was also able to earn a double-double totaling 16 points and 13 rebounds. Other double figure scorers included
Benton Singleton with 14 points.
The Griffins got off to a hot start jumping ahead early. The team was able to maintain their lead for the entire first half. After a made free throw by Elijah Rice, Fontbonne took their biggest lead of the game with the score at 41-24 with 2:50 left in the half.
Fontbonne would stand ahead of Illinois College 43-33 as the game headed to halftime.
The Blueboys would work to decrease the deficit in the second half. After a made free throw by
Eddie Fox-Commings with 8:26 left in regulation, the game would stand tied 59-59.
A made layup by Rogers followed by a made three-pointer by
Jahkeis Tippett would put IC ahead 78-73 with just two minutes remaining. The Blueboys would rely on stellar free throw shooting to seal the win in the final minutes.
The Blueboys will look ahead to host the Fontbonne Griffins in a rematch this Friday, 2/19 at 7:00 PM.
