GREENVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Lady Blues defeated the Greenville Panthers in their first road game of the season with a final score of 76-72. This improved the team to 2-0 overall this season.
Ashlyn Wightman led the team in scoring with 14 points, six rebounds, and five blocks. Other double figure scorers included
Junie Zirkelbach with 13,
Krista Bass with 12, and
Lilly Pepper with 12. Pepper led the team in rebounds totaling nine boards on the day.
IC would get off to a slow start in the first quarter being down 18-10 to the Panthers with 1:52 to go in the period. The team would battle back to tie the game after a made three-pointer by Zirkelbach with 7:30 left in the second. The Lady Blues would stand ahead 36-34 at the end of the first half.
Wightman was able to help the Lady Blues maintain the lead scoring 10 points in the third quarter shooting 5-6 from the field.Â
Greenville would tie the game at 57-57 with 8:24 left in regulation after two made free throws by Emily Reinneck. After a back and forth contest the Lady Blues would establish a 4-point lead after a made jump shot by Zirkelbach to make the score 73-69 with just 31 seconds remaining.Â
The team was able to seal the win with clutch free throw shooting down the stretch by
Megan Price and Pepper.Â
The Lady Blues had an outstanding day shooting the ball ending the game with a 42.9 field goal percentage. The team was also able to out-rebound the Panthers 45-38 in the team win.
The Lady Blues will host Westminster Mo. on Tuesday, 2/16 at 7:30 PM in their next contest.Â
