JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Blueboys won an overtime thriller in their home opener against Webster University with a final score of 76-69. This advances the Blueboys to 2-0 overall this season.
The team was led offensively by
Tre Rogers and
Jake Mazrimas each totaling 14 points in the contest. They were followed by Hunter OIttensmeier who also finished with double figures in scoring with 13 points. Mazrimas and
Nestor Daboin both led the team on the boards with eight rebounds.
IC found themselves in a highly contested matchup against the Gorloks. Both teams stood tied 32-32 until Webster was able to steal the ball for a last second dunk before the end of the first half to take the lead 34-32. The Blueboys were able to go on a run in the second half to match their largest lead of the game at 54-45 after a made three-pointer by
Henry Hayer with 6:31 left in the half.
Webster would not go away quietly as they battled back to decrease the Blueboys lead to just two points with eight seconds left in regulation. A foul by IC would put Webster at the line for the game tying free throws to send the game into overtime with the score at 61-61.
In overtime, IC was able to get a huge three-point basket from Mazrimas to take the momentum. The Blueboys would seal the win with stellar free throw shooting down the stretch to defeat the Gorloks.
The Blueboys will look ahead to host the Bill Merris Tournament this weekend on Friday, 11/12 and Saturday, 11/13. The Blueboys will face Dominican University on Friday at 7:30 PM.
