JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Blueboys hosted the Dominican University Stars in the first round of the Bill Merris Tournament. IC picked up the win defeating the Stars with a final of 86-57 to advance to the championship game tomorrow at 3:00 PM.
The team was led by
Jake Mazrimas totaling 15 points and seven rebounds in the contest. Other double figure scorers included
Tre Rogers (14),
Benton Singleton (12), and
Hunter Ottensmeier (11). Singleton also recorded seven rebounds in the game. Rogers was able to set his teammates up for success leading the team with five assists.
The Blueboys started off strong jumping to an early lead over the Stars. The team stood ahead by 10 points after a made free throw by Ottensmeier halfway through the first half. IC continued to produce offensively extending their lead. A missed shot by Mazrimas set up a huge put back dunk by Singleton to give IC the lead and the momentum heading into halftime 48-29.
IC's lead proved to be too much for the Stars to overcome as the Blueboys advanced to tomorrow's championship game against Central College at 3:00 PM.
