MOUNT VERNON, Iowa- The Illinois College Lady Blues traveled to face Cornell College in their Midwest Conference opener. The team picked up a win over the Rams with a final of 72-51. This improved the Lady Blues to 2-4 overall this season.

Lilly Pepper, and
Ashlyn Wightman led the team in scoring with 16 points each. Pepper and Wightman both recorded double-doubles recording 13 and 10 rebounds individually.Â
The Lady Blues relied on a balanced attack to defeat the Rams. The team took control in the second quarter outscoring Cornell 21-11 to stand ahead 35-26 at the end of the first half.Â
A made layup by Pepper with 6:33 left in the final quarter would give IC their largest lead of the day at 25 points. IC maintained their lead for the remainder of the contest to secure the win.Â
The Lady Blues will continue conference play on Saturday, 12/4 at 3:00 PM on the road against Ripon College.Â
