MOUNT VERNON, Iowa- The Illinois College Blueboys traveled to face the Cornell College Rams in a MWC matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Blueboys were able to walk away with a big win defeating the Rams with a final score of 39-7. This brings the team to 3-5 overall this season and 3-4 in the MWC.
IC was led once again by
Destin Chance at the command of the Blueboys offense. Chance totaled 255 yards passing with four touchdowns through the air. Chance also led the team in rushing with 104 yards and one rushing touchdown.
KJ Corley was the teams leader in receiving with 107 yards and one touchdown. He was followed by
Collin Brunstein who finished the game with 99 yards receiving and two touchdowns. The Blueboys defense was led by
Trent Durell with eight tackles and an interception in the contest.
After a missed field goal by Cornell on their opening drive, the Blueboys looked to get on the board first to start the game. Chance was able to put together a stellar drive that ended in the 23-yard touchdown pass to
Collin Brunstein. This gave the Blueboys the early lead 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.
IC would take advantage of a fumble recovery at the end of the first quarter to set up their next drive.
Matt Schultz was able to punch in a touchdown run for the Blueboys with 11:57 left in the second quarter from four yards out to give the Blueboys a 14-0 lead. The Blueboys would add another score on a one-yard pass to
William Campbell to make the score 20-0. IC continued to shine offensively with a 52-yard touchdown pass to Corley to put the Blueboys ahead 27-0.
Another touchdown pass would make the score 33-7 at the end of the first half. This proved to be too much to overcome for the Rams as Illinois College walked away with the win.
The Blueboys will host Grinnell College in their final home game of the season on Senior Day next Saturday, 11/6 at 1:00 PM.
