IC Football Picks Up Close Win Over Knox College

JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Blueboys football team picked up a big win over MWC competitor Knox College with a final score of 27-20. This advances IC to 2-4 overall and 2-4 in the Midwest Conference.

The Blueboys were led by Destin Chance at the helm of the IC offense. Chance totaled 257 yards passing through the air with two touchdowns. He was also able to record 36 rushing yards with one rushing touchdown. KJ Corley had an outstanding performance finishing the game with 182 receiving yards and two touchdown catches. The defense was led by Jaylin Swan who recorded 10 tackles, two forced fumbles, 3.5 sacks, and one blocked extra point.

IC would get off to a hot start after Chance was able to connect with Corley for their first touchdown of the day in the first few minutes of the game. Chance would score again in the first quarter on a nine yard rush to give the Blueboys the 14-0 lead heading into the second quarter. The Blueboys then put together an eight play, 65 yard drive topped off by a five yard touchdown run by Matt Schultz to extend the lead once more to 21-0.

Knox would get on the board with a one yard touchdown run by Hunter Anderson towards the end of the first half. The Blueboys lead would stand at 21-7 as the game headed into halftime.

During the halftime presentation, the Illinois College Athletics Department presented their annual Downer and Hopper Awards. These awards are given to the most outstanding male and female student-athletes each season voted on by the IC coaches and administrators. The department congratulated the 2020 award recipients Andrea Hyde and Anthony Flores, as well as the 2021 award recipients Sydney Hood and Bailey Reed.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Prairie Fire looked to spark a comeback. Knox was able to take advantage of great field position to put the ball in the end zone and decrease the deficit to just 21-13. The Blueboys would look to answer getting the ball back with 7:23 left in the game at their own 25 yard line. Chance was able to connect with Corley for their second touchdown of the day on a 59-yard bomb to extend the Blueboys lead once again and seal the victory.

Illinois College will travel to continue MWC play against Cornell College on Saturday, 10/30 at 1:00 PM.
