BELOIT, Wis.- Illinois College traveled to take on Lawrence University in a Saturday Midwest Conference matchup. The Blueboys were able to complete a come from behind victory after being down 7-23 at halftime to defeat the Vikings with a final score of 38-37. This gives IC their first victory of the season as they stand at 1-5 overall and 1-4 in the MWC.
Destin Chance earned the game winning touchdown in the final two minutes of the game to give IC the win. He led the team with 208 yards passing and two touchdowns through the air.
Matt Schultz punched in two touchdowns on the ground on two rushes.
Collin Brunstein led the team in receiving with 136 yards receiving with two touchdowns. The defense was led by
Kyle Lane with nine tackles and
Cameron Jones with a key interception in the third quarter.
IC would get on the board first with a one yard rush by Schultz and an extra point by
Tre Johnson to take an early 7-0 lead. The Vikings then put together a strong offensive performance in the rest of the first half scoring three touchdowns through the air. The Vikings stood ahead of the Blueboys 7-23 as the game headed to halftime.
The Blueboys were able to start the second half with a 49-yard touchdown pass from Chance to Brunstein to decrease the deficit. The team would then get the ball back after a Vikings touchdown, and put together a seven play 45-yard drive capped off by another one-yard rushing touchdown by Schultz to make the score 26-31. Lawrence would add two field goals to make the score 26-37 with 13:32 left in the final quarter of the game.
IC would then connect on a 52-yard strike from Chance to Brunstein to make the score 32-37 with 13:13 left in the game. The Blueboys then put together a six play 68-yard drive ending in the game winning rushing touchdown by Chance.
The team will continue MWC play hosting Knox College on Saturday, 10/23 at 2:00 PM.
