DE PERE, Wis. – The Illinois College women's basketball team couldn't overcome 31 turnovers in a 77-61 loss to St. Norbert College on Wednesday. The Lady Blues shot better from the field, from the three-point line and from the free-throw line, but the Green Knights overcame that disadvantage with better ball control, committing a relatively paltry 18 turnovers on the night. IC falls to 7-5 (3-2 Midwest Conference) with the loss.
Following a closely-contested first half, St. Norbert took control in the third quarter. The Green Knights led by a point after one quarter of play and went to the half with a 36-33 lead. The first half was a battle between Macie Zurfluh of St. Norbert with 15 points and
Grace Yaunches for the Lady Blues with 14 points.
In the third quarter, Illinois College was able to knot the game up twice. The last tie occurred at 42-42 on a pair of
Kendra Bass free throws, but a 16-1 run by St. Norbert followed. When
Krista Bass was finally able to end the run for IC, less than eight minutes remained in the contest and the Lady Blues were unable to get closer than seven points in the closing minutes.
Yaunches ended the night with a team-high 23 points.
Krista Bass added 13 and three assists.
