JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College women's tennis team split its two opening matches of the Midwest Conference season on Saturday. The Lady Blues started off the day with an inspiring 9-0 win over Beloit College to give Head Coach
Tyler Linscott his first career victory. The day ended with a 9-0 defeat against preseason favorites Lake Forest College.
The Lady Blues are on the road next weekend for three matches in their lone road trip of the Fall season. The weekend starts with a Saturday doubleheader featuring St. Norbert College at 9 a.m., followed by Lawrence University at 3 p.m.
Illinois College 9, Beloit 0
Saturday's doubleheader started off fantastically for Illinois College. A year ago, IC battled to come away with a 5-4 win over the Buccaneers in this same matchup but on this day it was no contest.
Illinois College took a 3-0 lead in the match with a sweep of doubles.
Sally Hixson and
Sophia Roth won, 8-3, at No. 1.
Madelyn Deardorff and
Kalisa Goertz were 8-6 winners at No. 2 and
Maggie Dooley and
Lena Reed paired up for an 8-5 win at No. 3.
Points at Nos. 1 and 2 singles from Roth and Hixson secured the win. Goertz was next to finish with a straight-sets win over Emma Hahn at No. 4. IC closed out the sweep as Reed held off Hayden Lamphere, 6-2, 7-6(4). Both Deardorff and Dooley then claimed third-set tiebreakers to make it a clean sweep. Deardorff held off Makayla Jo Zundel at No. 5, 6-4, 2-6, 10-7. Dooley battled back from a set down for a 6-7, 6-0, 10-8 win over Jamie Kelly at No. 6.

Even though they came in riding high, the Lady Blues couldn't match up with Lake Forest in the afternoon.
The Foresters went up, 3-0, with a trio of 8-0 victories in doubles. Most singles wins were similarly one-sided for the visitors. Only Goertz managed to win more than two games in a match, falling in a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Emma Wang at No. 4 singles.
