JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College women's tennis team was forced inside on Sunday morning, but didn't let the change of venue affect them as the Lady Blues quickly put away Fontbonne University, 9-0. With the victory, IC improved to 4-5 overall on the season.
Fontbonne was down one player on Sunday, so Illinois College started off the match with a 2-0 lead by default. That grew to 4-0 after dominant wins at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles.
Sophia Roth and
Sally Hixson won the No. 1 match, 8-0.
Kalisa Goertz and
Madelyn Deardorff were 8-1 winners at No. 2.
AnnaBeth Batson won her No. 6 singles match by default. Meanwhile, in the other five singles matches, Illinois College gave up no more than one game en route to a clean sweep. Hixson was a winner at love over Jordan Sampson at No. 2. Roth and Goertz won their Nos. 1 and 3 singles matches by scores of 6-1, 6-0.
Lena Reed and Deardorff were 6-0, 6-1 winners at Nos. 4 and 5 singles.
Illinois College is back home on Oct. 5 for a pair of Midwest Conference matches, facing Grinnell College at 9 a.m. and Cornell College at 3 p.m.
