JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College women's tennis team played Grinnell College closer than many Midwest Conference schools on Saturday morning, but it still wasn't enough in a 9-0 loss to the Pioneers. With the loss, IC falls to 4-6 (2-5 MWC). The day's other match with Cornell College was postponed due to rainfall and a make-up date has yet to be finalized.
Grinnell took a 3-0 lead in doubles, though the Lady Blues showed up and offered some resistance.
Sally Hixson and
Sophia Roth had the closest match of the three, falling by a score of 8-3 at No. 1 doubles.
The Pioneers completed the sweep in singles. Roth and
Lena Reed had the best showings of the day for IC. Roth fell to Abby Nielsen at No. 1, 6-0, 6-2. Reed was a 6-2, 6-0 victim of Sophia De Los Reyes at No. 4.
A make-up date with Cornell will be announced in the coming days. The Lady Blues are back home on Oct. 9, facing Knox College at 5 p.m.
