JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College women's soccer team did their best to contain a high-octane Greenville University offense on Wednesday night, but the Panthers got rolling in the second half and came away with a 5-0 win over the Lady Blues. IC falls to 5-3-0 on the season ahead of the start of conference action this weekend.
The match began with one-way traffic in front of
Charlotte Crofton's goal and it seemed like only a matter of time before Greenville struck. The opening goal came in the 23rd minute when Molly McDonald headed in from close range to make it 1-0. Illinois College hung on to stay within a goal at the break, thanks largely to eight saves from Crofton in the opening 45 minutes.
The second half was more of the same and the Panthers added onto their lead on a penalty kick in the 53rd minute from Kate Arthur. Breanna Thomas made it 3-0 in the 70th minute before two more goals in the 74th and 77 minutes wrapped it up.
IC ended with four shots in the match.
Ashley Brokaw had two of them, one of which forced Reaghan Lesh into her only save of the night. Crofton ended with 15 saves for the Lady Blues.
