LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Illinois College women's soccer team was in control most of the way against Rockford University, but found itself down a goal with time ticking down in the first half. That's when
Kaylee Andrea took over. The IC junior scored with less than two minutes left until the break and added her second goal less than a minute after the intermission. The Lady Blues rolled from there, adding a 79th-minute tally from
Jessica Schuetz to wrap up a 3-1 win over the Regents. IC improves to 5-2-0 on the season with the victory.
For the opening half-hour, Illinois College absolutely peppered the Rockford goal with shots, but Amelia Harper was there to stop everything. With 30 minutes gone, the Lady Blues had a 11-1 edge in shots on the Regents but Harper had stopped all of them. The match took a sudden shift when Rockford took a 1-0 lead on an own goal in the 34th minute.
With the match almost to halftime, Illinois College was able to level the score with a goal from in close by Andrea.
Ashley Brokaw had the assist on the goal to make it 1-1 at the break. After action got back underway, Andrea struck for the second time by rebounding her own shot after Harper made the initial save.
After a shot by Jessivel Uribe and a save by
Charlotte Crofton in the 48th minute, Rockford managed very little the rest of the way. Illinois College continued to control play and finally broke through with a goal to clinch it in the 79th minute when Schuetz tapped in a through ball from
Olivia Dobbs.
The Lady Blues ended with a 21-4 edge in total shots, 16 of which were on frame. Brokaw had six shots in the match, while Andrea ended with five.
Morgan Lallish added four. Crofton earned the win in goal while making three saves.
