JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College women's tennis team returned home on Thursday night and earned a 5-0 win over visiting Blackburn College in non-conference play. With the win, Illinois College improves to 3-4 overall on the season.
Blackburn did not have three doubles teams available, so IC entered the match with a 1-0 lead. That quickly grew to 3-0 as the Nos. 1 and 2 doubles teams each won by scores of 8-1.
Sally Hixson and
Madelyn Deardorff got the win at No. 1, while
Lena Reed and
Kalisa Goertz won at No. 2.
Illinois College clinched the win with victories at Nos. 1 and 5 singles.
Sophia Roth defeated Rachel Bly at No. 1, 6-1, 6-0.
Ashley Brokaw took down Hailey Vance at No. 5, 6-0, 6-1. With the match decided, the remaining singles matches were left unfinished. Reed and
Maggie Dooley were each up a set at the time things wrapped up.
Next up for the Lady Blues is a Midwest Conference matchup at home against Monmouth College on Sept. 24 at 5 p.m.
