RIPON, Wis. – The Illinois College women's tennis team shrugged off two losses on Saturday and earned a 6-2 win over Ripon College on Sunday morning. The Lady Blues are now 2-4 on the season and 2-3 in the Midwest Conference after taking down the Red Hawks.
Sunday's match ended one point shy of a typical scoreline due to rain in Wisconsin which moved the match indoors. Without the full allotment of courts available and with Illinois College already haven clinched the win, no No. 6 singles match was played between
Ashley Brokaw and Becky Rossen.
IC took full control of the match by starting the morning off with a sweep of three doubles matches.
Kalisa Goertz and
Madelyn Deardorff continued their strong partnership at No. 2 with an 8-2 victory. At No. 3,
Maggie Dooley and
Lena Reed had an easy time in an 8-1 win. The toughest of the three matches happened at No. 1, but
Sally Hixson and
Sophia Roth held on for an 8-6 triumph.
Needing only two points to clinch the win, the Lady Blues did so in short order. Goertz earned the first point of singles with a 6-0, 6-0 demolition of Tamera Holland at No. 3. Following a Ripon win at No. 1, Hixson clinched the win with a 6-2, 6-0 takedown of MacKenzie Warner to make the score 5-1 in favor of the Lady Blues. The other Illinois College win happened at No. 5 where Dooley defeated Madison Rostollan, 6-2, 6-2.
Illinois College is back home on Thursday evening, hosting Blackburn College on the newly-renovated courts of the Bellatti Tennis Complex at 5 p.m.
