JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College women's tennis team made its Spring season home debut in cool and swirling conditions on Wednesday night, hosting Westminster College (Mo.). The Blue Jays took a 2-1 lead after doubles and turned that into a 6-3 victory over IC. The Lady Blues drop to 5-11 on the season.
Westminster took the first point of the night with an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles over the team of
Sally Hixson and
Sophia Rother. The Lady Blues came back with a win at No. 2 to tie the score after an 8-2 triumph from
Kalisa Goertz and
Jenny Montelongo. The go-ahead point for the Blue Jays came at No. 3 when their team was able to outlast
Ashley Brokaw and
Abby Isham by a score of 8-6.
In singles, Roth and Goertz were able to secure points for the Lady Blues, but it wouldn't be enough. Roth defeated Sydney Attebery at No. 1, 6-1, 6-4. Goertz was a 6-4, 6-1 winner at No. 3 over Maddy Gipe. The Blue Jays took the match with victories at Nos. 2, 4, 5 and 6.
The Spring season continues for Illinois College on April 12 with a road match at Principia College starting at 5:30 p.m.
