Box Score FULTON, Mo. – The Illinois College men's tennis team tied a school record on Monday afternoon by beating Westminster College (Mo.), 9-0, for the team's eighth victory of the year. At 8-10 overall, the Blueboys match the 1995, 1996 and 2018 teams for most wins in a single season.
Though the team went away from their usual doubles pairings, the Blueboys still quickly won all three matches for a 3-0 lead.
Michael Connolly and
Cameron Doerr won, 8-4, at No. 1.
Miguel Vaca and
Connor McAndrew paired up for an 8-0 win at No. 2. At No. 3,
Jonah Wheeland and
Jacob McQueen put together an 8-2 victory.
The lineup remained as normal in singles and IC barely allowed the Blue Jays to win a game in six straight-set wins. Vaca set the tone with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1. Wheeland was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 2. In the No. 3 match, Connolly registered a 6-2, 6-2 triumph. The Nos. 4, 5 and 6 matches were all claimed by Doerr, McQueen and McAndrew by identical scores of 6-0, 6-1.
Illinois College returns home to the Bellatti Tennis Complex on April 20 for Senior Day, taking on Illinois Wesleyan University at 11 a.m.
