Lady Blues Reach 20-Win Mark for Second Straight Season

Illinois College traveled to Iowa on Saturday and defeated two American Rivers Conference foes.

GRINNELL, Iowa – The Illinois College volleyball team defeated Central College and Buena Vista University on Saturday in an event hosted by Grinnell College. With the two victories, the Lady Blues improve to 20-7 overall on the season, reaching the 20-win plateau for the second straight season. The last time IC had back-to-back 20-win seasons came in 1995 and 1996.

The Lady Blues wrap up the regular season with a trip to Webster University on Nov. 5 for a 6 p.m. match with the Gorloks.

Illinois College 3, Central 1
(25-21, 25-17, 26-28, 25-12)

After two fairly comfortable set wins to take a 2-0 lead in the match, Illinois College dropped a long third set but rallied for its easiest win of the day to defeat Central by a score of 3-1.

Ali Pankey and Madison Klanke each had 12 kills in the match and Brenna Dameris added 11 with a match-best .500 hitting percentage.

Elizabeth Ganley had 34 assists in the match. Pankey and Reagan Gifford led the back-row defense with 11 digs.

Illinois College 3, Buena Vista 0
(25-17, 25-16, 25-22)

Illinois College barely allowed Buena Vista to reach a positive hitting percentage in a sweep of the Beavers. 

Pankey once again led the Lady Blues with 12 kills in the match while adding eight digs and a pair of aces. Klanke and Abbie Horstmann each added seven kills apiece. Ganley supplied a double-double with 25 assists and a team-high 10 digs.
