WEBSTER GROVES, Mo. – The Illinois College women's basketball team struggled from the field and turned the ball over 21 times in a 72-43 setback to Edgewood College in a semifinal of the Webster Tip-Off Classic. The Eagles will now face the hosts in the championship game tomorrow, while the Lady Blues (1-2) take on the University of the Ozarks for third place.
Illinois College's only lead of the night came at 2-0 when
Krista Bass made a layup following an Edgewood turnover. The Eagles responded with eight unanswered and then hit a bucket right at the buzzer to take a 21-12 lead after one.
By halftime, Edgewood was in firm control and it stayed that way throughout the second half. In the fourth quarter, IC was able to twice get the deficit under 20, but with time ticking away and no chance of a comeback, the Lady Blues went to their bench and played a number of newcomers late in the contest.
Lilly Pepper was the only player in double-figures for Illinois College. She had 10 points and eight rebounds off the bench.
Grace Yaunches added eight.
Carly Cameron snared 12 rebounds.
Illinois College will face another set of Eagles tomorrow in the third-place game. The University of the Ozarks fell to Webster in the nightcap by a score of 71-48. That game will get started tomorrow at 1 p.m.
