Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lady Blues Handcuff University of the Ozarks in Second Half Comeback

IC held the Eagles to 3-of-31 shooting in the second half to roar back from a five-point halftime deficit.

WEBSTER GROVES, Mo. – The Illinois College women's basketball team went to halftime trailing by five but absolutely locked down on the University of the Ozarks in the second half to win going away, 75-52, on Saturday afternoon in the third-place game of the Webster University Tip-Off Classic. The Lady Blues improve to 2-2 on the season.

For the game, the University of the Ozarks shot just above 23 percent, but that doesn't tell the whole story. The Eagles went to halftime leading, 37-32, and had shot a respectable 38 percent at that time. It was a totally different story in the second half.

The third quarter began with a 7-0 Illinois College run with a three-pointer from Grace Yaunches sandwiched by two baskets from Madison Schoenfeld. After the Eagles tied the game, IC rattled off another 10 unanswered points and would never trail again. The Lady Blues ended up outscoring the Eagles by a count of 26-4 in the quarter and took a 58-41 lead into the last 10 minutes after a 1-of-10 shooting quarter from the University of the Ozarks.

Somehow things would get worse for the Eagles. In the fourth quarter, they shot 2-of-21 and the Illinois College lead grew as high as 28 points in the late stages of the contest.

Grace Yaunches scored 14 points on the afternoon and was named to the all-tournament team. Megan Price added 10 points and six rebounds. Krista Bass had nine points, six rebounds and six assists.

Illinois College now comes home to Sherman Gymnasium for its home opener against Central College on Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m.
