MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The Illinois College women's soccer team managed a few offensive chances on Sunday, but couldn't convert on any of them in a 4-0 loss to Cornell College. The Lady Blues fall to 5-9-0 overall on the season.
The match was scoreless for more than 20 minutes thanks to three early saves from
Charlotte Crofton. Cornell opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with a goal from Sam O'Brien. After a
Katie Elmore shot was saved on the other end of the field, the Rams quickly added onto their lead with a Sofia Schnur tally in the 26th minute. A 36th minute goal by Ashley Quesada made things more difficult on the Lady Blues heading into halftime.
Savannah Henson moved into goal for the second half and made nine saves in a 25-minute span before allowing a goal from Georgia James in the 71st minute. Elmore and
Morgan Lallish had shots on goal late in the match but Nicole Trenholm was there for every save.
Crofton made five saves in the first half and Henson contributed 13 in the second half. Lallish led the Lady Blues with three shots (two on target).
IC is back home next weekend for a pair of matches at England Stadium. First up is a game with St. Norbert College on Oct. 19 at 11 a.m.
