Greenville Blanks Lady Blues in Final Non-Conference Match

The Panthers tallied three goals on either side of halftime in a 6-0 win.


GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College women's soccer team closed out non-conference play on Wednesday night with a 6-0 loss to Greenville University. The defeat drops the Lady Blues to 4-6-0 on the season, while the Panthers improve their record to 7-3-0.

Greenville had a healthy edge in total shots in either half, so it was up to goalkeeper Lindsey Kormelink to keep Illinois College in it. She made 15 saves before departing the match, while Ashley Brokaw made six saves in mop-up duty. Five of Kormelink's saves came in the first nine minutes of the contest, while on the other side of the pitch, Mychaela Bennett forced a save from Marjory Coates in the seventh minute.

The first score for Greenville came in the 13th minute on an assist from Dani Pearce. Pearce would go on to score in the 34th minute and Ellie Cummins grabbed the third Panther goal in the 42nd minute. 

In the second half, Pearce completed a hat trick with goals in the 51st and 64th minutes. Breanna Thomas had the final tally of the day for Greenville in the 66th minute.

lllinois College ended with seven shots in the match, all on target. Bennett accounted for three of those shots, while Parker Corbridge, Olivia Dobbs, Josie Garfat and Jessica Schuetz all had one apiece.

The Lady Blues return to Midwest Conference play on Sept. 29, hosting Lawrence University at England Stadium at 1:30 p.m.
