Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | The Gorloks attempted 29 shots and put five past Lindsey Kormelink in a shutout victory on Wednesday evening.

Lady Blues Fail to Contain Potent Webster Offense

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College women's soccer team had its three-match winning streak halted on Wednesday night against traditional SLIAC powerhouse Webster University, falling to the Gorloks by a score of 5-0. The loss drops the Lady Blues to 4-4-0 on the season, while Webster ups its mark to 7-1-0.

Webster started the match strong and peppered the Illinois College goal with shots. Lindsey Kormelink was forced into a save in the first minute of the match and made another in the 10th minute. A breakthrough seemed inevitable with the flurry of opportunities that Webster had and it finally came in the 17th minute when Savannah Page put one in a corner to beat Kormelink after build-up play from Jillian Zimpfer and Melissa Kasper.

The score remained 1-0 into the 21st minute when a lightning strike resulted in a delay of nearly an hour. When play resumed the Gorloks quickly doubled their lead in the 23rd minute as Melissa Kasper took a cross from the left wing and ducked around a defender to leave herself one-on-one with Kormelink. Her shot found the back of the net and made it 2-0 at the break.

Though Jenny Montelongo managed a pair of shots in the second half for Illinois College, neither one did much to bother Abbey Mercer in goal for the Gorloks. On the other side of the field, Webster added a 65th-minute goal from Nicole Bascio and a pair of goals from Joi Wilson in the 76th and 81st minutes.

Besides Montelongo, Morgan Lallish had IC's other shot attempt in the match. Kormelink ended with nine saves.

Illinois College begins Midwest Conference play on Saturday with a 1:30 p.m. match against Knox College in Galesburg, Ill.
