RIPON, Wis.- The Illinois College men's tennis squad started out conference play with authority, downing Ripon College, 9-0. The Blueboys jump to 5-4 on the year (1-0 Midwest Conference).
Illinois College cruised through all three doubles matches. Miguel Vaca and Michael Connolly eased to an 8-3 at the No. 1 spot. The No. 2 doubles match also finished with a score of 8-3, with Rolando Salazar and Cameron Doerr claiming the victory. Jacob McQueen and Nazar Otunchiev wrapped up doubles play with an 8-2 victory for IC at No. 3.
The Blueboys kept trucking through the singles matches. Vaca downed Junmo Kwon at No. 1, 6-1, 6-0. Otunchiev followed with a 6-1, 6-3 victory. Connolly won his match at No. 3 with a 6-1, 6-4 showing over Adrian Granados. Doerr took care of Emilio Tijerino, 6-1, 6-0. At No. 5, Salazar defeated Daniel Garcia, 6-0, 6-2. Wrapping up the victory at No. 6 singles, McQueen took down Chris Mooney, 6-1, 6-0.
Illinois College looks to continue its hot start to conference play when the Blueboys travel to Lake Forest College tomorrow for a 4:30 p.m. match.
