GRINNELL, Iowa – The Illinois College men's tennis team lost an 8-1 decision to Midwest Conference leaders Grinnell College on Saturday morning. The Blueboys played well and picked up a point at No. 1 singles from
Miguel Vaca, but were unable to overcome the depth of the Pioneers.
Grinnell took a quick 3-0 lead in doubles action, winning all three matches by scores of 8-1.
Vaca earned his side a point by defeating Zach Lane at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-4. The win improved the Illinois College junior to 14-2 overall on the season.
The Pioneers controlled the action in the other singles matches. Grinnell earned 6-0, 6-0 wins over
Michael Connolly and
Rolando Salazar in Nos. 3 and 5 singles.
Nazar Otunchiev,
Cameron Doerr and
Jacob McQueen all earned only two games apiece as the Pioneers also swept at Nos. 2, 4 and 6.
The Blueboys will try to end the season with a winning overall record and a potential chance at the MWC Tournament when they take on Cornell College tomorrow at 9 a.m.
