ELSAH, Ill. – The Illinois College men's tennis team fell to 0-2 early in the season with a 9-0 loss to Principia College on Tuesday night. The Panthers, four-time defending champions of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, improve to 2-0.
Principia took all three doubles points, with only
Michael Connolly and
Cameron Doerr winning a game in any of the three matches. That Blueboy pair lost the No. 1 match to Wyatt Dale and Greg Sovie, 8-1.
Rolando Salazar and
Jacob McQueen fell at No. 2, 8-0, as did
Connor McAndrew and
Joe Mendala at No. 3.
In singles, Principia won all six matches in straight sets.
Miguel Vaca came closest to earning a point for the Blueboys, but the junior fell at No. 1 to Dale by a score of 6-4, 6-4. Connolly also took a loss at No. 2 to Jules Kitchingman, 6-0, 6-2. Doerr matched up with Sovie for a second time on the day, but lost at No. 3, 6-0, 6-1.
Salazar was swept by Nat Kenworthy at No. 4, 6-0, 6-0. McQueen was a 6-2, 6-1 victim at No. 5 against Brody Swan. McAndrew was defeated by Peter Griswold at No. 6, 6-0, 6-1.
Illinois College resumes action on Feb. 18, traveling to Wisconsin Lutheran College for a 2 p.m. match.
