JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College men's tennis team suffered an 8-1 loss to Loras College on Sunday at the Bellatti Tennis Complex in the first home match of the season for the Blueboys. IC drops to 2-3 on the season while the DuHawks improve to 3-2.
Loras jumped out to a 3-0 lead in doubles, winning at Nos. 2 and 3 by scores of 8-0. At No. 1,
Michael Connolly and
Miguel Vaca put up a great fight before eventually falling to Jason Derby and Charlie Harris, 9-7.
In singles action, Loras won four matches in straight sets.

Rolando Salazar,
Jacob McQueen and
Connor McAndrew all lost to DuHawk opposition at Nos. 2, 4, 5 and 6. Connolly was also defeated at No. 3, though the junior took Kevin Murphy the distance. Murphy recovered from a rough first set and eked out a 1-6, 6-2, 10-7 win.
The point for Illinois College on the afternoon was from Vaca in the No. 1 singles match. Facing Derby for the second time of the day, Vaca dug deep for a 6-2, 6-7(5), 10-7 victory.
The Blueboys will travel to Greenville University on March 3 for two matches, first taking on Franklin College at 1 p.m. before facing the Panthers at 4 p.m.
