ELSAH, Ill. – The Illinois College men's tennis team struggled on Saturday night and dropped an 8-1 decision to Principia College. The Blueboys fall to 0-2 on the young season.
Doubles will be an important piece of Illinois College's success this year, but the Blueboys started off slowly, falling behind 3-0.
Miguel Vaca and
Michael Connolly were the only team to win a game in doubles, but the IC No. 1 team lost its match, 8-4. Principia swept doubles with a pair of 8-0 wins at Nos. 2 and 3.
Principia continued to dominate in singles, winning five of the six matches in straight sets. The only Illinois College point came from Vaca, who came from behind for a 3-6, 6-3, 10-4 win over Greg Sovie at No. 1. Connolly also gave a good fight at No. 4 before losing a 6-2, 6-4 match to Brody Swan.

Collin Walter fell in the other four singles matches for the Blueboys.
Illinois College will have the next weekend off, continuing the season on Feb. 24 with a neutral-site match against St. Louis College of Pharmacy in Belleville, Ill. at 4 p.m.
