Volleyball Splits on Opening Day of Augustana Pumpkin Bash

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Illinois College volleyball team took one out of two matches on Friday night at the Augustana College Pumpkin Bash. IC defeated Simpson College in four sets in the evening, then lost in straight sets to the hosts to bring the day to a close. With the split on Friday, Illinois College moves to 13-15 on the season.

The Lady Blues conclude the 2017 season tomorrow morning with an 11 a.m. match against Wartburg College at Augustana.

Match One: Illinois College 3, Simpson 1
(26-24, 18-25, 25-19, 25-19)

Illinois College managed a tight, two-point win in the first set which proved all the more important when Simpson came back to take the second set. The Lady Blues handled the Storm easily in the next two sets however, notching the four-set victory in the opener.

Ali Pankey had a match-high 17 kills as well as a team-high 23 digs in the victory. Maddie Ramsey added 13 kills and Rebecca Shields had six. Elizabeth Ganley had 43 assists and 13 digs in the match. Madie Budd had 20 digs, Cheyanne Jockisch had 17 digs as well as three aces, and Kori Hayes added 14 digs as well.

Match Two: Augustana 3, Illinois College 0
(19-25, 23-25, 16-25)

Playing on its home court, Augustana was able to take care of Illinois College in three sets. The Vikings took the first and third sets fairly easily, only being challenged in the second set when the score was knotted at 23-23 before Augie tallied the final two points to pad its lead.

Pankey was the lone player for IC to reach double-figures in kills, finishing with 11. Ramsey had seven in the match and Shields had six. Ganley ended one dig shy of a double-double with 32 assists and nine digs. Jockisch again led the Lady Blues with 25 digs in the match, while Pankey had 13 and Budd added 12.
