By: Illinois College almost lost after holding a 2-0 lead in the match, but a 15-7 pull-away win in the fifth set gave the Lady Blues the victory.

MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Illinois College volleyball team took a 2-0 lead on Monmouth College on Wednesday night, then had to survive a valiant comeback attempt by the Fighting Scots before heading home with a 3-2 (25-21, 25-18, 18-25, 21-25, 15-7) victory. The Lady Blues improve to 9-11 (3-2 Midwest Conference) while the Scots fall to 6-14 (1-4 MWC).
The match looked to be setting up as a short one when Illinois College won the first two sets, but Monmouth picked up its play to defeat the Lady Blues by identical scores in the third and fourth sets. In the fifth set, the Fighting Scots led IC, 6-4, before the Lady Blues claimed 11 of the last 12 points in the match to pull away.
Ali Pankey had another big night with 20 kills and 11 digs.
Maddie Ramsey also reached double-figures in kills with 12 and a .300 hitting percentage.
Elizabeth Ganley had 45 assists and a match-high 31 digs.
Madie Budd contributed 24 digs and
Kori Hayes had 18 digs along with eight kills and five aces.
Illinois College returns home this weekend for two matches. First up is an Oct. 13 matchup against defending MWC champion Cornell College at 7 p.m. inside Sherman Gymnasium.
