By: Playing down a man on the day, the Blueboys lost by identical 9-0 scores to MWC opponents Carroll and Lake Forest.
LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Illinois College men's tennis team dropped to 2-16 (1-8 MWC) with two losses on Saturday to Carroll University and Lake Forest College. Down a man and traveling five, the Blueboys were down 2-0 in each match to start and ended with identical 9-0 defeats to the Pioneers and Foresters.
The early match of the day was at Carroll and the Pioneers guaranteed victory with two wins at doubles after the Blueboys defaulted the No. 3 doubles match and the No. 6 singles match. Carroll swept the five remaining singles matches with
Miguel Vaca at No. 1 and
Ryan Golab-Vice at No. 3 putting up the most fight. Vaca lost his match to Peter Jaeger, 6-1, 7-5. Golab-Vice fell to Joshua Ramos, 6-3, 6-4.
In the afternoon, a win by Dan Pivonka and John Snider at No. 1 doubles over Vaca and
Michael Connolly by a score of 8-5 secured the win for Lake Forest. In singles action, the Foresters won four matches by scores of 6-0, 6-0 and Vaca retired in the second set at No. 1 after falling by a score of 6-1 in the opening set.
Illinois College is scheduled to face the University of Illinois-Springfield in a match at Rochester High School on April 25. If weather interferes, the Blueboys will then be off until they make the trip to Madison, Wis. for the MWC Championships on April 30 and May 1.
