GALESBURG, Ill. – The Illinois College men's tennis team narrowly missed out on its second Midwest Conference victory of the season on Wednesday, falling to Knox College by a score of 5-4. With the defeat, IC runs its record to 2-14 (1-6 MWC).
The key point of the match was at No.2 doubles where the Prairie Fire were able to earn an 8-6 win over
Elijah Rhoad and
Ryan Golab-Vice. That put Knox ahead, 2-1, following a win at No. 3 doubles and an easy 8-1 victory for
Miguel Vaca and
Michael Connolly at No. 2 doubles.
The Blueboys would have needed four victories in singles to earn the win and unfortunately IC was only able to come up with three. Vaca cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Ashwin Kushwaha at No. 1 singles and Connolly had a fairly easy go of it at No. 2 with a 6-1, 7-5 triumph over Minh Le. At No. 5, Golab-Vice held off Brandon Alaniz for a 6-2, 2-6, 10-5 win. The Prairie Fire notched wins at Nos. 3, 4 and 6 to earn the win.
Illinois College will be at home tomorrow to face Millikin University in a match beginning at 5 p.m.
