GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College men's tennis team found itself in a number of matches but couldn't earn a point and ended with a 9-0 loss to Greenville College on Saturday afternoon. The Blueboys drop to 0-4 on the season.
The Panthers took a quick 2-0 lead in doubles action with wins at Nos. 2 and 3. At No. 1 doubles, IC's pair of
Miguel Vaca and
Michael Connolly held a 7-2 lead over Justin Tilford and Nate Wieland before a stunning comeback from the Greenville duo gave them a 9-8 (7-5) win for a 3-0 lead in the match.
In singles, wins at Nos. 2, 4 and 6 clinched the match for Greenville.
T.J. Lawal took a pair of games in the opening set before falling at No. 3, 6-2, 6-0.
Ryan Golab-Vice was also competitive in his match at No. 5 singles against Chris Heckman, though he eventually lost by a score of 6-1, 7-5. Vaca took his first career loss in singles at No. 1, losing a 6-4, 6-4 match to Wieland.
Illinois College will be back on the road on Feb. 27, taking on St. Louis College of Pharmacy in a match slated to begin at 12 p.m.
