Volleyball Rallies for One Win at Monmouth Invitational

MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Illinois College volleyball team ended the one-day Monmouth Invitational tournament with a record of 1-2 to even its record at 2-2 for the 2015 season. The Lady Blues were swept in their opening match against the eventual tournament champions from Lincoln Christian University. Following that match, IC and Principia College went back and forth for five sets, but the Panthers were able to sneak out the win. Closing the day out in the fifth-place match, Illinois College was able to come out firing and get past Eureka College in three sets. Senior Holly Crocher ended the day as IC's representative on the all-tournament team.

The Lady Blues return to Sherman Gymnasium on September 9 at 7 p.m. for a non-conference matchup with Blackburn College.

Lincoln Christian University 3, Illinois College 0
(13-25, 21-25, 13-25)

Illinois College got its day off to a rocky start against a talented squad from Lincoln Christian. The Red Lions were able to limit IC to a hitting percentage of just .101 and they recorded 13 blocks as a team to earn the straight-set victory.

Lisa Lowry led all players in the match with nine kills. Allison Perkins led both teams with 15 digs, while Courtney Louveau dished out 12 assists.

Principia College 3, Illinois College 2
(19-25, 25-21, 17-25, 25-21, 3-15)

A see-saw affair between Illinois College and Principia ended in disappointing fashion for the Lady Blues. Though the team had moments before sent the match to a fifth set, Principia quickly gained the upper hand and stormed to a 15-3 decision to get the win. Louveau was all over the court for the Lady Blues in the match, recording a triple-double of 10 kills, 15 assists and 15 digs.

Crocher led the offense for IC in the match with 13 kills, while Lowry added 12 of her own. Eve Bahler topped the Lady Blues with 26 assists. Defensively, IC was sound. Four players had double-figure dig totals, led by 22 from Perkins. Bahler had 16 and Louveau had the 15 that completed her triple-double. Joining that group was Katie Tonry with 10.

Illinois College 3, Eureka College 0
(25-13, 28-26, 25-22)

Illinois College was able to end the day on a positive note with a straight-set triumph over the Eureka Red Devils. Lowry once again had a big role on offense with 12 kills and Crocher added 10 on only 15 attack attempts.

Bahler had 19 assists to lead both teams and added nine digs as well. Louveau had 13 assists also for IC. Perkins continued her solid defensive afternoon with 16 digs and Brenna Garland added 12.
