JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College men's tennis team showed signs of improvement on Tuesday, but were ultimately defeated by Knox College, 9-0. The Blueboys fall to 0-9 (0-5 Midwest Conference) on the season.
The match between IC and Knox began with singles, where the Blueboys showed fight against the Prairie Fire.
DeVaughn Green took points in each set in a 6-1, 6-2 loss at No. 5.
Anthony Samples was defeated at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-0, while
T.J. Lawal was a 6-0, 6-2 victim at No. 3.
Brandon Hollenbeck and
Jacob Moodie each lost, 6-0 and 6-1, at Nos. 4 and 6, respectively.
With the match decided after singles play, Knox completed the sweep in doubles, winning 8-0 at No. 1 and No. 2. Green and Moodie were able to win a game at No. 3 but ended with an 8-1 defeat.
The Blueboys will remain at home for three more matches this weekend, starting on April 11 with a 12 p.m. meeting with Fontbonne University.
