MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Illinois College men's tennis team fell to Monmouth College on Friday morning in a Midwest Conference matchup at the Monmouth College Tennis Stadium. The Scots earned a 9-0 win over the Blueboys as IC was down a player and started off the match facing a 2-0 deficit. Illinois College falls to 0-8 (0-4 MWC) on the season.
Monmouth took an automatic point at No. 3 doubles and increased that lead to 3-0 after wins at Nos. 1 and 2. Eli Rhoad and
Anthony Samples picked up a game at No. 1 but lost, 8-1.
Rhoad then got his first look at No. 1 singles this season and battled hard against Monmouth's Landon Walker, winning some long rallies against the best player that the Scots had to offer. Ultimately, Rhoad suffered a 6-0, 6-1 loss though. It got no easier for the Blueboys as Samples,
T.J. Lawal,
Brandon Hollenbeck and
Jacob Moodie all lost 6-0, 6-0 decisions.
Illinois College returns to campus for the first of four straight home matches on April 7, facing Knox College from the Bellatti Tennis Complex at 3 p.m.
