By: Both the Rams and Pioneers took conference victories off the Blueboys on Sunday at the Bellatti Tennis Complex.
JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College men's tennis team dropped a pair of Midwest Conference matches on Sunday, losing 9-0 to Grinnell and Cornell. The Blueboys fall to 0-12 (0-7 MWC) this season.
It was an early morning for both Grinnell and IC with a 9 a.m. start on Sunday morning, but the Pioneers didn't play tired. Only the No. 3 pairing of
DeVaughn Green and
Jacob Moodie managed a game in doubles for the Blueboys, but they ended up falling by a score of 8-1. Singles didn't go any better for IC as Grinnell won five of the six matches by a 6-0, 6-0 score.
Elijah Rhoad won a game at No. 1 against Caleb Kumar, but he ended with a 6-1, 6-0 defeat.
Illinois College had slightly more success facing Cornell, though the final result was the same. Green and Moodie again earned a game in doubles, as did the No. 1 pair of Rhoad and
Anthony Samples, yet the Rams came away with all three points. In singles, Moodie, Green and Samples all won at least one game apiece but Cornell again swept all six matches in straight sets.
Up next for IC is its last non-conference match of the season. The Blueboys make the short trek to Springfield to take on UIS on April 14, starting at 12 p.m.
